Flamboyant vs. Pretentious

UncategorizedcindynovotnyComment

familyTonight my colleagues and I had a great (passionate) conversation about people we know who 'brag' everyday about what they do, what they own and how great they are.  I mentioned a friend of mine who fit some of those characteristics  -  a friend who seems to always talk about themselves and how great they are.  They spend money like a drunken sailor and act as if everyone else can too.  What became very obvious was my friend is not 'flamboyant' they are just pretentious.  So what is the difference?  Flamboyant is showing a great deal of wealth - 'show offs.'  Pretentious on the other hand is  having or showing the unpleasant quality of people who want to be regarded as more impressive, successful, or important than they really are.  Either way both seem to be so 'not cool,'  Do yourself a favor and never forget where you came from.  I am so proud that my dad paid for every bit of his education for college with a wife and 2 small children.  We lived in a mobile home which I thought was a mansion.  I will never utter the word trailer trash or discount anyone.  If you work hard you deserve what you have, but being flamboyant or pretentious is for those who clearly don't get it.  Do you know what I mean?  Think about it!
